A/Prof Emma Readman

A/Prof Emma Readman’s main focus is patient care. She takes great pride in actively listening to patients and responding to their needs, making each consult a patient-focused discussion. She also wants to ensure that each patient gets the most up-to-date and thorough medical investigation and treatment available. The patient comes first.

A/Prof Emma Readman graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1994 (MBBS honours) and attained a fellowship in the Royal Australian and NZ College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (FRANZCOG), with a 2 year fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery.

During Medical school A/Prof Readman was the president of the Austin Hospital Medical Students Society, and was the Trainee Representative on the Victorian State Committee. She is Head of Endosurgery B, and Consultant in charge of Ambulatory Hysteroscopy at the Mercy Hospital for Women, Victoria.

A/Prof Emma Readman has organised, developed, and currently runs the Mercy Hospital for Women Ambulatory Hysteroscopy Service, which is a reference centre for hysteroscopy, and has special interests in menstrual disorders, endometriosis, pelvic pain, fibroids, PCOS, complex laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures including laparoscopic hysterectomy. She also performs some obstetrics procedures including laparoscopic cervical stitch insertion, and laparoscopic and hysteroscopic caesarian scar repair.

Emma has an honourary appointment with the University of Melbourne, teaching and examining medical students, Emma lectures for the Victorian branch of the RANZCOG in Gynaecology for both the diploma students, and for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainees. She also lectures for Family Planning Victoria in their Family Planning Certificate Course and assists in the running of surgical training courses at the Royal Australian College of Surgeons, both for the Victorian Obstetrics and Gynaecology trainees, and on behalf of AGES (Australiasian Gynecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society) for interstate and overseas trainees. She is a clinical tutor for the Epworth Clinical School and is the director of training for the AGES fellowship for advanced endoscopic trainees at Mercy Hospital for Women.

A/Prof Emma Readman is heavily involved in research, and currently has numerous grants for ongoing gynaecologial projects. Emma has been involved in visiting Mongolia for the last 11 years by invitation of the Mongolian Society for Gynaecological laparoscopy, and has been involved in teaching and operating there. Recently, she has been involved in the creation of MAMA, the Mongolian Australian Medical Affiliation, and has been active in creating and maintaining scholarships for visiting Mongolian doctors via the Epworth Foundation.

A/Prof Emma Readman is currently involved in Family Planning Victoria, FPV training courses as a presenter.
